Food Highlight

To borrow a spot from a well known blog.

Tuesday Food Spot Light.. Beignets! pronounced BEN YAYS.
To the well traveled that have been to NewOrleans this is probably a well known delicacy. Beingets are also known as French Doughnuts. Let me tell you they are awesome pillows of sweetness. I myself have not been to New Orleans, but my parents had been and brought some of the mix back from the restraunt that makes them today,Cafe du Monde.

Here is a little history. It is believed that the Ursuline Nuns of France, who came to Louisiana in 1727, brought this simple pastry to New Orleans. The recipe remains the same to this day. The beignets are hand rolled and deep fried then covered with heaping amounts of powdered sugar. By the mid 1800's beignets had become a welcome treat for all social classes at all hours of the day.

You can actually ORDER a box of beignet mix on the internet. It is a purchase that I would recommend to everyone.

Enjoy best with your favorite cup of coffee..
